The following information is based on my personal experience in the retail jewelry business.  It all started in 1946 when I got out of the U.S. Army and started working full time in my father’s jewelry store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  We were on the fifth floor of a jewelers building in downtown Milwaukee.  Within three years we occupied one-third of the fifth floor.  We finally occupied the entire second floor (4,500 sq. feet) of a building on the main street in downtown Milwaukee.  A few years later we opened another store in Elm Grove, a very high-end suburb of Milwaukee.

Our main store was a full service store with seven employees and three more goldsmiths in the back shop.  Experience is the best teacher; it is something you cannot buy.  My father said, “learn from my mistakes but also from every thing that made us very successful and well respected.
